Welcome to Penwright. We value your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This policy explains how Penwright handles your information when you use the app.
Penwright is a mobile writing and worldbuilding tool for authors — a place to draft your manuscript and organise your characters, lore, plot notes, and scenes together. It is designed to keep your writing private and under your control.
Penwright follows a strict data-minimisation approach. There are no accounts, and you never sign in.
Every scene you write is stored as a plain Markdown (.md) file inside a folder that you choose on your own device. Penwright reads and writes only inside that folder. Your prose never leaves your device unless you deliberately export or share it, or place that folder in a sync service of your own choosing.
Your lore cards, chapter and scene structure, and word-count history are stored privately on your device. When you link a project folder, this information is also backed up into that same folder (as a penwright.json file) so it survives alongside your manuscript. None of it is transmitted to us or to anyone else.
If you purchase Penwright Pro, the transaction is handled by Google Play, with RevenueCat as our purchase-verification provider. We never receive your payment details, such as card numbers — only a confirmation of whether Pro is active, which unlocks the Pro features.
Penwright contains no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising. We do not collect usage statistics of any kind, and we have no way to see what you write or how you use the app.
Penwright uses the following services solely to sell and unlock Pro:
These services have their own privacy policies:
We do not sell, trade, or share your data with anyone. No manuscript text ever leaves your device. The only information exchanged with a third party is the minimum required for Google Play and RevenueCat to confirm a Pro purchase.
You are always in control of your own files. Deleting a project, chapter, or scene inside Penwright removes it from the app, and you can empty the in-app Trash to remove it permanently. Your original Markdown files remain in the folder you chose — Penwright never deletes the files in your folder on your behalf — so you can keep, move, or delete them yourself at any time. Uninstalling the app removes Penwright's on-device data; your chosen folder and its files are left untouched.
Penwright is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Because Penwright collects no personal data at all, this is largely moot, but if you have concerns please contact us.
Your writing is stored locally and benefits from your device's built-in security. Because Penwright does not transmit your writing over the internet, there is no risk of it being intercepted in transit.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Last Updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
