1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, or using Penwright, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the app.

2. Description of Service

Penwright is a mobile writing and worldbuilding app for authors. It lets you draft a manuscript as plain Markdown files, organise chapters and scenes, and keep lore cards for your characters, places, and story details. The app offers both free and premium (Pro) features.

3. Your Content

You retain all rights to everything you create with Penwright. Your manuscript, lore, and notes are stored on your own device, as plain Markdown files in a folder you choose, and are not transmitted to our servers. You are solely responsible for the content you create and for keeping your own backups.

4. Penwright Pro

Penwright Pro can be unlocked either of two ways:

• Monthly subscription: $1.99 USD/month, billed through Google Play, renews automatically until cancelled.
• Lifetime unlock: $24.99 USD, a single one-time purchase through Google Play with no recurring charge.

Pro unlocks:

• Unlimited active projects (the free tier caps at 3)
• Unlimited lore cards per project (the free tier caps at 20)
• Linking projects into a series, so lore cards and wiki-links are shared across every book in it
• All genre calendar presets: Fantasy, Sci-Fi, and Historical, in addition to Standard and Relative
• Additional editor typefaces, beyond the three free base faces
• Export to .docx, .epub, and .pdf, including Shunn-format submission manuscripts

Refunds: Purchases are processed by Google Play. Refund requests must be made through Google Play in accordance with its refund policy.

Cancelling the subscription: You can cancel the monthly plan at any time through Google Play > Payments & subscriptions. Pro access continues until the end of the billing period you've already paid for.

5. Free Tier

The free version of Penwright includes the full writing editor, local file access, and word-count tracking. These core features are never restricted. The free tier includes up to 3 active projects, up to 20 lore cards per project, the Standard and Relative calendars, three editor typefaces (Serif, Sans, Mono), and export to .md and .txt. These limits may be adjusted from time to time.

6. Acceptable Use

You agree to use Penwright only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You agree not to:

• Use the app in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or hack the application
• Circumvent or manipulate the free-tier feature limits
• Interfere with or disrupt the operation of the application

7. Limitation of Liability

Penwright is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. While Penwright keeps a local safety-net copy of your work and stores your prose as files in your own folder, we are not responsible for any data loss resulting from device failure, app uninstallation, revoked folder permissions, or deletion of files by you or other software. You are responsible for maintaining your own backups.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or relating to your use of Penwright.

8. Intellectual Property

The Penwright application, including its design, features, and functionality, is owned by Penwright Studio and protected by international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Your use of the app does not grant you any ownership rights to the application itself. Your writing, of course, remains entirely yours.

9. Modifications to Service

We reserve the right to modify, update, or discontinue the service at any time, with or without notice. We may also update these terms to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons, including changes to Pro pricing. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

10. Termination

These Terms remain in effect while you use Penwright. Because the app runs entirely on your device with no account, you may stop using it at any time by uninstalling it. We reserve the right to discontinue the app or its Pro features as described above.

11. Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom, without regard to its conflict of law provisions. Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of Penwright shall be resolved in the courts of the United Kingdom.
